Rochester Wedding Trends: Watercolor!

Guest blog post presented by Ilana from Sugar and Type, a design studio with a serious passion for paper!

Hello Buffalo! I’m so excited to be a member of Buffalo Indie Weddings, rep’ping your sister city, Rochester! I started my business after getting my Bachelors of Fine Art from RIT, and it’s been an incredible journey. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing clients, and it’s been so fun to share my own journey planning my own wedding!

We all loved playing with water and paint as kids, but as a grown up – watercolor is magical. Kelly Place and Rachel Elizabeth are two Rochester artists who have really made watercolor something to be remembered.

I love how in the above design, Rachel took a classic invitation and gave it a spin. The playful typeface, and the mix of colors is stunning. I especially love the edges on the thank you card!

Kelly’s pieces all feel so unique, and her colors are so rich! Kelly does the watercolor, and the calligraphy/lettering – of course, the envelope addressing is just as amazing.

I love how these designs incorporate so much about the couple – from their favorite colors to the way the invitation is worded.

Can’t get enough of these either? Be sure to contact Kelly or Rachel for some seriously stunning watercolor paper goods.
