Custom Grooms Suits vs. Off The Rack Grooms Suits

Walking into an out of touch department store to a sales person with little to no training who attempts to hawk you an ill-fitting, boxy potato sack. This is no way to purchase a suit for the biggest moment of your adult life. You’ll end up walking away with 2 things; a bad experience and something that wears you and not the other way around.

When you buy a suit off the rack you end up squeezing your body into whatever size that brands thinks that you should. Every Bureau suit is made one of one for the person ordering it. We have the luxury of making that garment showcase bits of your personality. This also ensures it functions appropriately for your lifestyle and body type. Whether it be a fun lining, a monogram or an interesting fabric we craft your suit with you in mind. We design the suit in a way that accentuates your best features as well as masks the ones that you may want obscured. And of course, most importantly, your suit will fit you perfectly.

All of our garments are 100% custom made meaning we aren’t pulling an existing garment off the shelf and tailoring it to make it fit. Your suit will be made entirely for you from a thought or idea to a fully functional wearable garment. But we understand that it can be difficult to envision what a final product may look like, especially something that is a bit more unique. However, we are “professional imaginers.” We have designed countless suits for countless people from the wardrobe basics to the more daring. The task doesn’t scare us.

However, just because you have an idea doesn’t mean it’s the best idea. We never want to play hostage negotiator and talk you off a ledge. However, we are willing to explain to you why certain things work and why others don’t. We are also willing to come up with creative solutions as to tone down the wild and turn up the dull.

The Custom Grooms Suit Experience at Bureau

The custom suit shop can be an intimidating concept for someone who has never experienced the process of having a garment made for them before. The words “Custom Clothier” strikes up mental images of an arrogant, unfriendly, old Italian man with measuring tape draped around his neck in a stuffy, dark and uninviting room.  We wouldn’t want to walk into that room either.

The space that we designed to house our product is a unique and visual stimulating showroom that highlights our interests. More than anything we want to get to know our clients. We want them to kick back in our living room, listen to an Iggy Pop or Neil Young record, maybe have a beer and chat with us. The better we get to know you the easier it is to give you sound advice and set you up with the garment that makes the most sense for you.

Custom Grooms Suits and Groomsmen, Too!

If you are getting married we advise coming to start the process about 12 weeks before the wedding this way the suit or tux is wrapped up with ample to time to spare. Especially if you plan on having the whole gang get custom suits.Turn around time on our made to measure suits generally take approximately 4-6 weeks from start to finish. However, when it comes to hard date, time sensitive events like weddings we recommend giving yourself additional time. If you are getting married we advise coming to start the process about 12 weeks before the wedding this way the suit or tux is wrapped up with ample to time to spare.

Though not all of our grooms bring the full groomsmen party in for custom suits. Those that do have a lot of wrangling to do to make sure that everyone is able to attend a fitting. We understand that not all the groomsmen in a given wedding party live local. Getting out of town guys in can be tricky and for that reason. If you plan on having the whole gang get custom suits, we highly suggest starting the process 10-12 weeks prior to the wedding. In the case where a groomsman is unable to make it to the area beforehand, we are able to schedule and conduct fittings via FaceTime or Zoom.

Best Piece of Advice for Grooms

Don’t overthink it and keep it simple. A well-fitted blue or grey suit paired with a clean, white shirt. Add a textured tie and a leather lace up for a modern and timeless look that fits any occasion. There is a reason why certain things have just been a certain way for all eternity. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
