MoonRise Wedding Floral Design Origins
My love of flowers began in 2013 when I moved to Memphis, TN to join a sustainable farming program. Working alongside organic flower farmers, I became enamored with the entire process from starting seeds to harvesting. Once I began learning the basics of floral design, I knew that I had found my passion.
When planning my business several years ago, I wanted to put most of my focus into designing for weddings. Weddings are such a joyous occasion, and adding flowers to these special celebrations pulls at my heart strings the most.
Striving to stay current on trends in the floral industry often leads to encouraging my couples to be bold when choosing designs. To make sure, I continue my education through webinars and conferences throughout the year. The inspiration from education pushes me to try new things. I’m a big fan of taking risks in floral design and thinking outside of the box.
MoonRise Wedding Floral Design is passionate about sustainability and I strive to use design methods that cater to this as much as possible. Growing flowers feeds my soul, and ultimately I would like to have a small flower farm someday. I also enjoy going on weekly hikes, and spending time with my son.
The MoonRise Aesthetic
At MoonRise Wedding Floral Design, Meggan is most comfortable innovating beyond the older design models. This allows her to create a whimsical, garden-style aesthetic that uses local flowers as much as possible. As she explains, “When it comes to quality, local is always better.”
When in season, the flowers she uses are grown locally, many from her own garden. On the day of the wedding she remains on-site until everything looks perfect, the boutonnieres have been pinned, and the bouquets handed off. Focus on Floral Sustainability
For me, sustainability is big. Sometimes that can seem like an oxymoron when it comes to sourcing flowers especially during the colder months. However, I strive to use techniques and growing practices that will have minimal impact on the environment.
The floral industry unfortunately leaves a large carbon footprint. I support local flower farmers whenever possible throughout the season, and pay them credit every time. Over the years I have found new ways to keep flowers hydrated without having to use floral foam. Additionally, I reuse all that I can, from tissue paper to vases to ribbon. Lastly, at MoonRise Floral Design, we compost all flower scraps. My hope is that this becomes standard in the floral industry, and I am doing my part in Rochester as much as is feasible.

Getting to know my clients is a paramount. Furthermore, what they do, how they met, their plans for the future. My hands-on approach means you get me at your set-up and delivery because I strive for that connection. Also, so I can gush over how fabulous everyone looks! Clients can talk to me at any time throughout the year to address concerns, changes, etc. I’m a people person at heart!
Living by the idea that love is love and marriage is a human right, she is proud to support the local LGBTQ community. All the while fulfilling her mission of using flowers to make the union of two people even more beautiful. The joy she feels when talking about arrangements is contagious. Clients who take advantage of her free one hour consultation know she’s just as excited as they are to have their visions brought to life.
