We met in college at the University at Buffalo. Eric was to shy to ask me out, but because I’m no wallflower I asked him! When he showed up for our date wearing a really outdated navy blazer (think gold nautical buttons), and when at the end of the date he presented me with a single red rose before nervously kissing me on Elmwood Ave. outside of my apartment building… I knew this was different. Fast forward, I was recovering after a very challenging week at my new job and had no interest in going out to diner. Eric was very persistent, claiming to have had a gift certificate that needed to be used tonight. Knowing Eric Loonan, we do not pass on gift certificates or coupons for any reason! If I hadn’t been so exhausted, I would’ve have realized that Eric seemed way to nervous and way to insistent on going back to Papaya restaurant, where we had our first date. He got on one knee in the middle of the restaurant and asked me to be his wife. Thinking that the night couldn’t possibly get better, I got home and all our friends were in our apartment ready to celebrate! I don’t think either of us were very nervous on our wedding day, and hiring the most wonderfully talented local vendors helped a lot! Seriously, Buffalo is full of beautiful people with beautiful creative minds and I am forever grateful for our crew! We love our city so much, so we wanted to incorporate our Buffalove with simple, elegant and slightly art-deco design reflective of the beautiful architecture and spirit that is the city of Buffalo. Our ceremony and reception were held at the Hotel @ Lafayette, in the Greenhouse room. The space was enhanced with beautiful candlelight, lush greenery and gorgeous flowers to create our very own secret garden. I am not crafty by any means, so we were lucky to have some help with the handmade wooden centerpiece numbers, the mason jars and the found objects helped finish it all off. I am not a fan of traditional bridesmaids dresses personally, so again, we kept it local shopping at a favorite boutique and found gorgeous green jersey cotton amazing pocketed maxi gowns for our girls to party down in! The gifted accessories for the bridal party were handmade by a local artisan; crystal necklaces for the girls and BFLO tie clips for the guys. Looking back at the amazing day, our favorite part was right after the ceremony ended. We ran away to get 5 minutes to ourselves before the mad rush of people that want to congratulate us. It was the best 5 minutes of the day. In that moment we really realized what we just did. All of our friends said nothing changes being married and so far I pretty much agree, but I will say in that 5 minutes, in that moment of realizing that life is just different from here on out.
