Real WNY Love Story: A Fashion Model’s Vintage & Lace Inspired Canandaigua Wedding!

How many times do people say “we met at a bar,” but then actually marry that person. Well, we did meet at a bar, and we did get married! Sometimes two people just fit perfectly like a cookie cutter fitting the last piece of dough. Jason took me back to the exact spot of our first date, which was on Buffalo’s beautiful outer harbor at the farthest point of the dock overlooking the water. I had a hunch something big was about to happen, but by the time we had walked all that way to the end of the dock I almost thought nothing was going to happen! Then, Jason started with, “I wake up every morning with you in my thoughts….” and the rest is history!

Being a model in the bridal industry for three years you would think wedding planning would be easy, but it makes it harder because you see so many cool ideas and amazing vendors it’s almost impossible to make a decision! I have been blessed by having tried on at least 100 wedding gowns for fashion shows so I knew I wanted a ball gown. To me, the best part of the bridal fashion industry is no longer being limited to stark white wedding gowns. Putting on the Morilee gown from Bridal Chateau made me feel like I was from another time, and as tears filled my eyes I knew my theme would be vintage and lace.

Every vendor that we used or our wedding was near and dear to us. The cake was made by an amazing little lady out in Lockport who bakes right out of her home. My shoes were custom made with love from Mandi at Something Blue. My photographers were some of my most dearest friends. Even our reception space was a place I have modeled with for 2 years. Our engagement photos were taken outside in the snow which is something you don’t see every day. We picked Canandaigua NY because it’s close enough to us but far enough to feel destination. Sonnenberg Gardens is so historic and beautiful that as soon as I stepped on grounds I said, “I am getting married here.” I felt like the venue fit the dress and theme perfectly. We also chose the Inn on the Lake for it’s amazing view of the water. Guests attending were able to experience 6 themed gardens, a historic mansion, and the lake, all in one magical day!

Many things were handmade for our wedding. We gathered different tea cups from many antique shops, numbering the saucers in gold as table numbers for each table. We used old lanterns that were painted white for our centerpieces, and planter boxes that said “let love grow” to hold the candy flower place cards. The favors went with the tea cup theme by making each person a bundled tea bag with a ceramic tea bag holder, tied with lace saying “love is like a cup a tea, it’s all in how you make it.” I made my own pearl beaded garland and wrapped baby’s breath around for the vintage feel. We had a violinist play at the ceremony, and we entered the reception by boat which made for a memorable entrance. Our flower girl walked down with fairy wings and a flower wand I made with lace, pearls and custom flower. The ring bearer wore a vintage hat and outfit. My favorite moments were seeing my father waiting for me on the massive mansion porch, walking down the long pathway to meet Jason, and saying our own vows to one another. We also had 94 degree weather that day!
