Tom and I met in college while working at the NHL Store in NYC. He did his best to swoon me while folding t-shirts together, and it worked! We knew we wanted to get married so every visit back to my family in Buffalo we would start looking at possible locations. Tom really loved the Statler after looking at photos and planned a surprise proposal while we were touring the venue. We were flying from NYC the day of the Blizzard Thor. It looked like all the flights were going to get cancelled. By some miracle we made it out and it didn’t end up spoiling Tom’s surprise. The entire Staff at the Statler was in on it, here I was thinking we were planning this make believe wedding and he was proposing. He surprised me by having my mom and maid of honor there along with a dozen long stem roses. We got married in the same place we got engaged, and I love that. We wanted our wedding to be very personal. Since I no longer live in Buffalo we wanted to highlight the city and our love of hockey. Tom’s family is from New Jersey so I wanted them to get a taste of the city. Some of the items included in the welcome bags were mini Webers mustard, Mayor Brother’s water, even One Buffalo beer! Of course, we served Buffalo wings as a late night snack at the reception. We have little touches of Buffalo’s on our invitations and place cards. The hockey was reflected in our cake which was a Stanley Cup, our favors were cookies in the shape of Sabres and Rangers jerseys and our save the dates were hockey tickets. We used all local Buffalo vendors. Something I’ll never forget was the look on my now Husbands face when I walked down the aisle. He openly sobbed and it was so very touching. I also loved walking into the Statler seeing all my hard work pay off. The best part was the 4 hours straight of dancing thanks to Jeff Toy at Toy Brothers. He let us have the mic and belt out Bon Jovie, Emeniem, Back Street Boys. It was non-stop singing and dancing. I think overall our wedding was very unique. It was old Hollywood glamour meets the NHL. Tom loves hockey and I work for the NHL so it was important to have hockey elements while still being a glamorous wedding. The room was classic all white with blush and gold elements. We tied the room together with a giant Love Marquee sign from Blossom and Treasures.
