Real WNY Love Stories: A Magical, Woodsy Barn Wedding with Serious Style

“Joe and I met in 2010 at a music venue in downtown Buffalo. I dabbled in photography on the side and was taking photos of a local band that night. Joe was working and going to school full time, and with some pressure from his friends he decided to go out and see a few bands play. The moment we met was when he handed me a CD’s for his own band that night, and after I tried to find him, but he was nowhere to be found! The very next day I was taking promotional photographs for a fashion show with a local music mash-up, and Joe just so happened to be the guy that his band volunteered to model! With some small talk and a Facebook friend request, the rest, as they say is history!”

“We both share a passion for travel, so we made a promise that every year we would take one big trip and in 2015 we decided to head to St. Lucia. While I was busy making plans on what to pack for vacation, I was unaware that Joe was busy making plans to propose! Our close friend from Filmwell Studios actually captured the engagement story!

Some of the unique elements to our wedding day within our ceremony were having a family member as our officiant, choosing readings from special books like “Oh The Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Suess, and unifying our marriage with shots of Woodford Reserve Bourbon Whiskey! The Hayloft in the Grove really allowed us to specialize our entire wedding. From the ceremony to the reception, we were able to put tiny bits of who we are into all of the details and moments of our day! We made our own invitations and floral arrangements and centerpieces. We thrifted for months collecting glass vases of all varieties for the centerpieces! We utilized a globe as our guestbook, and special made glass coasters with a compass, our names and wedding date as favors.  We even had a “midnight snack” for our guests when Outback Kettle Korn set up!

Seeing everything come together was an amazing feeling. It was so great to see our guests enjoying themselves, both on and off the dance floor! Writing our own vows (though a little nerve-wracking!) was a great way to be in the moment together. For me, the most memorable moment was when my mom surprised us with a reading during the ceremony, where two people approached us with a wooden box. To our surprise, when we both opened our boxes white doves flew out of them! It was so amazing and I’ll never forget watching them fly away together.
