Real Weddings: Amber + Jeff

The Engagement:  July 2021 | Wildwood, NJ

During an ultimate frisbee beach tournament in Wildwood, NJ, Jeff suffered an injury…or so Amber thought.  What she didn’t know was that was with the help of her two best friends (and cooperation from the opposing team), Jeff had been busy planning this little interruption to the game so that he could propose to the love of his life.

So, as a teammate grabbed Amber from the crowd to check on her boyfriend, Jeff proceeded with his proposal plan and popped the question.  A shocked Amber quickly realized the injury was fake, said promptly said “yes.”  Surrounding teams stopped their games and rushed over to the field to cheer on the newly engaged couple.   As ultimate frisbee lovers, this proposal idea was a nod to how they met and will continue to be a fun part of their lives for years to come.

The Wedding:  November 2022 | Buffalo, NY

While planning their big day, Amber and Jeff had a vision of dark, moody and romantic details.  It was important to the couple to incorporate their personality into the day.  For example, this couple loves to read and so they named all the tables after their favorite authors along with a handpicked quote.   Punk rock and gaming are also shared loves for the couple and if you look closely at the photos below, these little details show up beautifully throughout.  The moody, romantic vibe was enhanced with plenty of candles to set the tone and both the venue and florist helped to create the perfect softly lit backdrop.

For their 120 person affair, Amber and Jeff decided the most important piece of their planning process would be the venue.  They were looking for a place that could house the entire event from ceremony to reception to guest accommodations, but it also had to have the right vibe.  After research, they selected the Hotel Lafayette as it checked all the right boxes and set the tone.   Using the venue’s caterer, Pearl Street Catering and selecting Paula’s Donuts for dessert, guests were treated to a gorgeous spread and a night of dancing by H & H Entertainment.

Amber + Jeff’s Advice for Engaged Couples?

Don’t feel pressured to be traditional and do what you feel is best for you and your day.  “You don’t have to be traditional, do what pleases you.  Save the dates are not super important if you are on a budget especially and if you do send them sometimes you lose touch with people you send them to and it’s ok not to invite them to the wedding.  This happened to us,  but that is life.  People might cancel last minute and if you want to fill their spots maybe have an idea of who to invite last minute that you like and won’t care if they are an add on”
